Skills Development

University of Teesside As part of my skills development I went on an educational visit to Teeside University, this visit lasted half a day and I went along wit other A2 Media Studies students. The purpose of the trip was to allow students to gain a wider knowledge about filming and editing, this was run by a university lecturer in the university.
Following an introduction we then we told about the equipment that we would be using, this included expensive professional equipment that the university owns. I learnt about different settings on the camera that allow the person filming to effectively cope with different elements, such as; if the light was too bright to film, then there was a setting which changed the mode of the camera and then this allowed effective clear images being recorded.

We went outside and used a variety of different shots with the camera to create a short video of a section of the university grounds, making sure that the shots we had used had all been created with the tripod on an even level ensured by using the spirit level on the top of the tripod.

After taking shots outside, we then used final cut pro on the Apple Macs to have a try ay editing our footage, there was also parts of the film Gladiator available for us to use as well, we tried editing our footage and then we had a go at creating a trailer video with the footage from Gladiator the movie.
